Guilty — of The Simpsons kiddie porn

Apparently Matt Groening’s The Simpsons are the same as real people. More or less.

That’s what Australian supreme court judge Michael Adams ruled in an online kiddie porn case. And his decision has meant a $3,000A fine for a man with cartoon characters modelled on Bart, Lisa and Maggie “engaging in sex acts” .

“In the Australian New South Wales Supreme Court today, Justice Michael Adams ruled that a fictional cartoon character was a ‘person’ within the meaning of the relevant state and commonwealth laws,” says The Independent, going on: “Alan John McEwan was appealing his February conviction for possessing child pornography and using his computer to access child pornography. He found guilty, fined $3,000 and placed on a good behaviour bond, adds the story.

“This matter is now legal precedence in NSW criminal law,” says a comment post in the Herald Sun, continuing: “In view of this decision, I demand that DOCS in NSW take immediate action to remove Bart, Lisa & Maggie Simpson from their parents, as children at risk, within the meaning of the State Legislation. “I also demand that the owners & managers of all computer games outlets be charged under the crimes act for second degree murder.” The stories don’t say how or why McEwan was nabbed in the first place.

Stay tuned.
